We here at oprainfall don’t just love video games: we’re big fans of anime, too. So in celebration of the medium, we’re here to give you our thoughts on what we’ve been watching each week as we watch it. Old, new – anything goes.

Currently Airing:

The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated!

Jahy Sama Will Not Be Defeated!Going back to the public bath from the last episode, we this time see it from the point of Saurva, who returns this week. As she prepares to relax, she instead has her visit unintentionally sabotaged by Jahy. It’s good to see her return, not to mention seeing how the manager helps her turn it around after Jahy seemingly ruins the night for her. From there we see Jahy use some of her hard-earned money at a store buying things that are not as great as she was hoping for, something I think most of us can relate to. We see another bonding moment between Jahy and the landlord from an ineffective plot to counter the feared magical girl. While she wants her rent, the landlord does care for Jahy, which is great to see. Lastly, having Jahy give advice to someone who is setting out to bring her down is something that honestly doesn’t seem that surprising at this point. Seeing our favorite denizen of the Dark Realm come up with less than stellar plans and being foiled by something such as crows is an entertaining sight. – Walter

The Case Study of Vanitas

VanitasAs I continue catching up on the recently-completed first cour of The Case Study of Vanitas, I’m surprised at just how much I really love the world-building. This series has an intriguing magic system, for lack of a better word: everything in the world is made up of “formulas,” and manipulating these changes their aspect. The world of Vanitas is one in which the basic formulas of the world were rewritten, creating levitating rocks out of coal, self-illuminating flowers, and vampires by rewriting the building blocks of humans. All vampires have a “true name,” the core formula that makes them who they are. Corrupting a vampire’s true name by rewriting these formulas creates “curse-bearers,” or vampires who can no longer contain their bloodlust and kill with abandon. It reminds me of Full Metal Alchemist, in a way. There’s a lot of other world-building that I really love, like how vampires live in a parallel world across a rift, called Altus, complete with its own version of Paris. There’s just a lot of intriguing bits and pieces to pick at here, and that’s not even touching on the main mystery of the series: who – or what – is creating “curse-bearer” vampires? We’ve also seen a different side to both Vanitas and Noé, with the former veering decidedly into uncomfortable boundary pushing, and the latter showing his despair. I continue to love them both, though Vanitas is asking for an ass whooping and I will be disappointed if he doesn’t get what’s coming to him. – Leah

Old Shows:

Soul Eater

Soul Eater | Official ScreenshotSince I plan on spending my time on older anime for these articles, rather than discuss more of the same old anime for multiple weeks in a row, I’ll be continuing each one in my own time. And on the side, I’ll watch something different for each of these Week in Anime articles. Perhaps I’ll even eventually find myself some new old anime faves I’ve never seen before, or maybe I’ll get one of you readers interested in one that you’ve never seen. Seeing as it’s now October, I thought something a little more fitting for the spooky season was perfect for this week. Thus, I started over on watching Soul Eater. Soul Eater isn’t an anime I watched when it first came out or have any nostalgia for. It’s actually one I originally watched the first few of episodes of with a couple siblings a few years ago. It also isn’t an anime I know a lot about because of my tendency to mostly re-watch old nostalgic faves. However, those first few episodes I saw (which I revisited today) certainly made it seem like a quality anime I could get into.

My first impressions of Soul Eater, after starting over shortly before writing this, are that it’s one of those wackier anime that doesn’t take itself too seriously, but I really like the style of it. I enjoy the style of 2000’s anime and how a lot of them look more bold than some of the 2010’s titles that came later, yet still look improved (mainly the character designs) from even older, 90’s anime. With all the monster fighting, the black cat character living in a pumpkin, the Grim Reaper, etc, I think Soul Eater could definitely be categorized as a Halloween anime, and as I said earlier, it seems perfect for this month. I look forward to watching more and seeing how the characters and story progress. I especially look forward to seeing how Maka and Soul progress with their goal of turning him into a death scythe and if that happens, what Maka does next. What little I’ve seen of it so far intrigued me enough to buy myself a copy a while ago, which is how I watched it today. It’s another anime DVD set in my very modest collection I’ve slowly been adding to. – Jenae

– You can watch Soul Eater on Hulu or Netflix.

Firefighting Simulator – The Squad

Genre Simulation Platform PC Age Rating N/A Official Website

I started firefighting as a junior firefighter at the age of 15 way back in 1989 and retired from firefighting at the age of 43. I grew up playing games on the Atari, like Pac-Man, and Donkey Kong, and I have progressed into playing Steam games on my PC .I have been searching for years for a realistic firefighting game or simulator and, until I saw this game, I haven’t really found anything realistic enough. Sure, there was the game on the Wii way back when, but come on, that game was boring and didn’t have very many interactive qualities.

Firefighting is, in my opinion, very unpredictable. You don’t know what will happen next, and no two calls are alike, just like in this game. Sure, if you progress through the calls, you will find some of the houses are similar and set up the same, but, I don’t think any situation on each call is the same. I enjoyed driving to the scene, getting to use the air horn and the sirens. That was fun, even though the camera angles were tough and made it hard to see the cars in front of you sometimes. I felt as though I was fighting with that throughout driving. I also still can not figure out how to configure my steering wheel to the game without it acting weird. So please, by all means, if anyone knows how to do this, let me know in the comments below.

Once you arrive on scene, there is a spot marked for you to park, and with no “stop” button, you end up moving back and forward a few times to get into the correct position. In my personal opinion, I would like the option as to where to park the rig if I wanted the truck right in front of the house or building.

Next, one of the firefighters on your crew will do a 360-degree check, which is, again, something always done for a real fire. I would always grab a crowbar and go to the front door, and any other doors, to make sure they were open. With that task done, I would command the green or tan crew member to make the save and then go around busting out windows while looking for victims. Sometimes, you need to make your way around the houses to open the back door or try and shut off the electricity to the house, depending on the type of fire you are dealing with. Once I did this, I would run back to the rig and have the green and tan crew members grab hand lines so they could go back in and fight some fire. While they were doing that, I would double check for any victims and once this was achieved it will say all victims rescued, and then you can grab a hand line and help fight the fire, or “quench it,” as the game says.

Controlling the crew members is sometimes a daunting task, as they will stand there in your way doing nothing. You can move them and point them to a victim or to the fire, as long as they have a hand line. If they have an extinguisher, you can forget about it. I never did get them to use one correctly.

A problem I had is using the ladder truck and the tower truck controls. It was hard to use them, maybe with more practice I will get better at it, but I do have over 50 hours in so far. For now, I mainly use the engine. I feel as though the rigs were set up pretty well, but, I would like, maybe, the option to set up or customize your rig and set them up how you would like to. And, while were on that subject, maybe even paint your own rig and customize it how you would like hint hint maybe add a Federal Q and an air horn. (that would be awesome!)

As far as the visuals go, the rigs are pretty realistic as far as turning corners and swerving thru traffic. The fire itself is also realistic. The sounds of the truck are pretty on par with what you would expect. The siren and air horn remind me of electronic sirens, I’d like to hear a Federal Q and air horn. While there is no background music, the fire itself does make noise similar to real fires with the popping and cracking sound of wood and windows.

The main problem I have with the game, as a whole, is the map they provide with new tasks and ones already done. It is very hard to know which tasks are already done and which ones need to be done. And again, this is just my opinion, maybe give a list of new tasks and what tasks need to be done to move onto the next fire.

I finished the game in less than 40 something hours (I have redone some maps and spent 10 or more hours doing that as well), and I would have liked to see more calls to respond to. Maybe throw in a curveball or two like traffic accidents and gas leaks, hazmat incidents, and stuff like that, and I would gladly keep playing. Overall, this is a very good game and I will definitely keep playing until the next one comes out, or maybe more calls are added to this one. Either way, I have been very entertained by the game and appreciate the opportunity to review it and offer my opinions.

Thank you to anyone that reads this as this is my first official review/opinion piece for oprainfall. And also a shout-out to oprainfall for giving me this opportunity to do this. Last but not least thank you to Publisher Astragon Entertainment and developer Chronos Unterhaltungssoftware for their hard work to provide this game.

With today being our 8th year anniversary as being a website we figured now is a great time to share with you what some of our volunteers have to say about their time here. We hope you enjoy reading them as much as we do. We will be sharing a few of these throughout the day today, and some will be short quips while others are a little longer and will be their own article. We hope you look forward to reading them all!

For me, oprainfall started as a means to cover games that I love, but it evolved into a way to reach out to interesting developers and publishers, and helped rekindle my love of gaming. As much as I loved retro and indie games before joining the site, that love has expanded dramatically in the almost decade I’ve been here.

Josh Speer

For me the site is a place where you can find things that you might see as much elsewhere. I found the site myself when I was looking for more about a game that I barely saw mentioned on other sites. To me it’s a place where you can find games that are easily overlooked for whatever reason. The importance of that to me its that you might be able to find something new to enjoy that could have easily been missed and might not even know was out there.

I’ve followed Operation Rainfall since it’s formation as a fan campaign 8 years ago, back when they were trying to convince Nintendo to bring Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, and Pandora’s Tower to North America. The campaign started at the perfect time in my life as a teacher in my high school lectured us recently on how if you band together do something like send letters, protest etc., you can bring out a positive change. So when Operation Rainfall started up, imagine my surprise when part of the campaign involved writing, sending letters to Nintendo. I immediately thought, well let’s see if this type of thing actually works. So I sent emails and letters to Nintendo as part of the campaign, though I didn’t realize that the combined efforts of other fans would bring about such a huge result. So you can imagine my surprise when ALL 3 GAMES eventually came over to the US, it blew my mind. Operation Rainfall taught me that if we as a gaming community band together for a cause, we can bring about positive change. That’s what the Operation Rainfall campaign meant to me.

Fast forward to when Operation Rainfall transitioned into oprainfall, a news blog dedicated to niche genres such as visual novels and JRPGs. I knew that if I was going to write for any news site, it was gonna be oprainfall, I would accept no other alternative. So when I was old enough, and they sent out the recruitment call, I signed up immediately and I haven’t regretted it since. Oprainfall, to me, is a place where niche games get the spotlight they deserve. Where others censor themselves to stay in the good graces of bigger companies, oprainfall does no such thing. If we think something is wrong, we will point it out to your face. I love this place cause it’s full of people who love niche games and wants to show others how great they are. I love this place cause it won’t take pointless censorship lying down. In a gaming journalism world dominated by politics and AAA games, oprainfall is one of the few places not swayed by politics or money. It is dedicated to games and the gamers who love to play them, and for that, I am proud to have followed them for the past 8 years.

For this article, Jenae R. and Quentin H. went hands-on with two different demos of DRAGON QUEST BUILDERS 2: Jenae R. (a series veteran) played the PlayStation 4 downloadable demo released June 27, 2019 and Quentin H. (new to the franchise) played the PlayStation 4 E3 2019 demo. This article contains thoughts from both people writing about both demos.

Jenae R.

DRAGON QUEST BUILDERS 2 | Character personality
All of the characters, including the Children of Hargon, have a lot of personality. (Image taken by Jenae R.).

DRAGON QUEST BUILDERS is a spin-off series, where each game is a new `what if this happened instead’ scenario, which is connected to the mainline DRAGON QUEST games. The first DRAGON QUEST BUILDERS title took place at the end of DRAGON QUEST 1. Instead of defeating the Dragonlord, the hero agreed to team up with him and as a result, the Dragonlord caused havoc and brought the world to ruin. This new entry, DRAGON QUEST BUILDERS 2, takes place after the end of the second mainline game. In an alternate turn of events, instead of being defeated completely, the Children of Hargon survive and look to bring destruction back to the world. One of their goals is to get rid of any builders who stand in their way. In both games, you take on the role of a builder and work towards restoring the world and defeating evil.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 | Malroth
I found Malroth to be a loveable smartass. (Image taken by Jenae R.).

After playing the original for the first time last year, I absolutely fell in love with DRAGON QUEST BUILDERS. It was full of charm and very addicting to play. By the time I beat it, I knew a second entry was being developed and I could not wait. Now with the English demo of DQB2 having just been released, I finally got a taste of what the game will be like on PS4. There are a lot of new additions, but you only get to see a smidgen in the demo. First of all, you’re given a partner to help you with fighting monsters and gathering materials. That partner, Malroth, you find on a deserted island (called the Isle of Awakening) where you’ve washed up, after the Children of Hargon’s ship you were on sinks. Anytime you take a slash at an enemy or break something for materials, Malroth will do the same. That’s the first big change, getting more NPC help. You didn’t actually get much help at all in DQB1.

Dragon Quest builders 2 | Island Offer
Who wouldn’t take that offer? (Image taken by Jenae R.).

The second big change is how the game is overall set-up. In DQB1 the chapters were separated from each other. Each one was in its own area. You’d fulfill quests, build up a base throughout the chapter and eventually fight an end of chapter boss. Afterwards, you’d leave everything behind and teleport to the next area with almost nothing on you. From what I’ve seen so far in the demo, it looks like DQB2 has one home base area. Throughout the story you’ll take a boat to various islands and bring stuff back to the starting island for the purpose of building it up. This is exactly what I wanted in the sequel. I think it’ll be much more fun to slowly build up one grand area, rather than a bunch of smaller bases. Yes, you could do that in Terra Incognita in DQB1, but I didn’t find it as fun without anymore story or quests to go with.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 | Exploration
Even on a deserted island, there’s a lot to explore. (Image taken by Jenae R.).

Aside from those two main changes, there a lot of other smaller, but very welcome additions. Some of those additions are the ability to swim in the ocean, a new stamina meter for certain actions such as swimming underwater, online multiplayer and other social features, and even equipment that doesn’t break. There are far too many updates for me to mention all of them. But it’s a whole lot of new stuff not found in the first game. I’m extremely hyped for DRAGON QUEST BUILDERS 2. Though before I pass things off to Quentin (so he can tell you what he thought as a newcomer who played a special demo at E3), I have to mention the one major issue I ran into. Once the ship you’re on sinks and you find yourself stranded on a deserted island, it’s possible to screw around too much purely through exploration and completely skip over prompting the story to continue. I went swimming around in the ocean and eventually found myself on the complete other side of the island. Being a little lost, I wandered around aimlessly until finding some NPCs. It turns out, Malroth was standing around seemingly frozen and some other NPCs were washed up on shore. Talking to the apparently dead NPCs made their bodies vanish with the appropriate commentary notes you’re supposed to see. But the girl who wakes up later and was currently passed out, only gave you a `…..’ response. Talking to Malroth did absolutely nothing. Fortunately, I saved right as I woke up on the island and simply restarted the game so I could properly activate the story. Nonetheless, that’s a serious flaw that needs to be fixed.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 | Shipwreck
I just hope this doesn’t end in another shipwreck. (Image taken by Jenae R.).

In the end, despite the one glaring issue DRAGON QUEST BUILDERS 2 is equally as exciting as the first title. The demo was about an hour or so depending on if you take your time and read everything the characters say. I went through the basic tutorial on the Children of Hargon’s ship and then did a few basic quests for Lulu and Malroth on the Isle of Awakening. The demo story cuts off when a guy with a boat comes to take you to a farming island. But you can get even more playtime out of the demo if you choose to explore or build anything. To be honest, the wait to play the full thing has been agonizing. After finishing the demo I immediately secured myself a digital deluxe pre-order and now I anxiously await July 12th. Keep reading though to find out what someone brand new to the series thinks of it so far.

Read onto the next page to see what Quentin H. thought of the E3 2019 demo——>

NOTE: This is a review of the PC Steam release of Moero Chronicle by Idea Factory International. You can check out our review of the Sony-published Asian English PS Vita release here.

With Idea Factory’s push towards supporting PC, it was only a matter of time before their fan service oriented titles started releasing on Steam, namely those in the Genkai Tokki series. First, there was Monster Monpiece which released earlier this spring. Now we have the second entry, Moero Chronicle. This title did get an English release on the PS Vita in Asia back in 2015 under the name Moe Chronicle, however it is only available in Japan and Southeast Asia. Having already completed the Asian English release (and reviewed it for this very site!) I will discuss in this re-review the quality and the differences present in the PC port.

Moero Chronicle | Priest
This elder is the total opposite of the caring but perverted priest from Conception II.

Gameplay wise, this title played fine. There is the option to resize the screen to fit your play style better. That said this does make the walls of the 3D dungeons look rough close up when the game is upscaled, revealing the limitations of the PS Vita’s graphical capabilities. However, the artwork and CGs benefit from the resizing with the art being of the same quality as the Vita release when enlarged. There are also Steam achievements and partial controller support added to this port, with the former reflecting the trophy list on the Vita release. Furthermore, there are trading cards and badges as well. The controls are fairly easy to use once you know where the buttons are mapped. I feel that IFI could have done a better job at explaining where the controls are mapped, which would help ease initial frustrations.

Moero Chronicle | Nasty water
I would say this is a beautiful view, but the water looks like semen.

The “Bumping Scratch” minigame, one of the signature highlights of the series, has been redone for PC. Instead of turning the system vertically like on Vita, you use the mouse to touch the parts of the monster girl on the screen to fill up the gauge. Additionally, the WASD keys are used to move around the screen, now resized to fit the wider laptop screen. This is more comfortable and plays better than on Vita. There is no need to turn the PC on its side and aside from the awkward repetitive mouse clicking is arguably more SFW than the Vita offering. I struggled to apply the different touch/rubbing sensations that you could do on the PS Vita, but I assume that is down for using a laptop mouse rather than a separate mouse.

Moero Chronicle | Minigame
Otton is sad that the gauge won’t get maxed out before the minigame ends. He will have to deal with that.

Furthermore, the translation for the Asia version was generally considered good, however there were some odd spacing, typos and incorrect referencing (ie. “Newd Lady Ruin” and “Nude Lady Ruin” being used interchangeably to refer to the third dungeon). Those expecting IFI to have checked over the translation to fix these errors will be disappointed as the translation is a copy and paste job. Bizarrely, new inconsistencies have been added in the PC port. This includes the game being referred to as “Moe Chronicle” in places like the pause menu, when both the opening theme and the title screen contain the new “Moero Chronicle” logo. Confusingly, the tutorial screens interchangeably use the Asian English logo and the Asian Chinese logo, and not the Steam logo. In this aspect, the port has been slightly bodged and lets the side down slightly.

Moero Chronicle | Inconsistency
“Moe Chronicle?!” Whatever happened to the “ro?” Also hello there generic elemental weakness system.

Moero Chronicle is also more affordable, being priced at $19.99 USD/£14.99 akin to the pricing of Monster Monpiece. This is good as the option to import the Asian Vita release is not accessible to some people, although that hasn’t stopped Vita owners asking for an official localisation on that platform. I am going to address the elephant in the room and say I would strongly argue that Moero Chronicle would have to be censored in order to allow for a western release on consoles. Furthermore, many of the people asking for a western Vita release are also the same people who do not buy censored games, which is very likely what they would be offered in a western Vita release of Moero Chronicle. IFI were damned if they do, damned if they didn’t here, which is not a good position to be in. In that sense, a PC only release is the best way to handle a western release of console titles that are at risk of requiring censorship. Ideally this would also include attempting to make an Asian English release available for collectors and console gamers, however Moero Chronicle is a rare example of this kind of release method.

Moero Chronicle | Bad otter
Otton being as straightforward as always.

With all this said, Moero Chronicle on PC is the definitive way to play this ecchi dungeon RPG. There were a few issues with the localisation during the port, however the game itself successfully passes through the porting process. My opinion of the game itself hasn’t really changed much since I played it on the Vita – the title is a mechanically basic dungeon RPG that shines best during its story scenes and presentation, while also being home to some of the best ecchi gameplay available in English. Because I had already thoroughly played through the title on Vita, I focused on clearing the PC version in 20 hours on the easy difficulty setting in order to focus on testing the port quality. If light-hearted ecchi games are your jam, this is a worthwhile addition to your library, whether it be this localised Steam port or the Asian Vita release.

At Anime Expo 2016, Azario Lopez had the opportunity to sit down with OKAYADO, the creator/writer/illustrator for Monster Musume. Monster Musume is a manga series currently being serialized in Monthly Comic Ryū in Japan and localized in North America by Seven Seas Entertainment.

Monster Musume takes place in a world where mythical creatures such as harpies, lamias, and mermaids are revealed by the Japanese government to actually exist and are then integrated into society as part of the “Interspecies Cultural Exchange Act”. Kimihito Kurusu first takes in Miia by accident, and then more and more ‘monster girls’ as the series progresses. As each of these girls that moves in with “Darling” (as Kimihito Kurusu begins to become known by) falls for him, he in turn has to help them integrate into society-at-large.

Anime Expo is the largest anime and manga convention in North America, and takes place annually at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, California. In 2016, over one-hundred thousand people attended the four days of the convention. Tickets for Anime Expo 2017, which takes place between July 1st-4th 2017, are currently on sale.

You can purchase the physical English language manga volumes of Monster Musume on Bookwalker, download it digitally on comiXology, and stream the anime series on Crunchyroll and/or with a Hulu Plus subscription. You can also message OKAYADO over on Twitter. You can check out Anime Expo over on their website, follow them on Twitter and on Tumblr, and like them on Facebook.

Operation Rainfall: When you created Monster Musume, did you think that it would have a chance at being popular in the West?

OKAYADO: I never thought it would be this popular, especially in the US.

OR: The series features a comedic overtone, but also features scenes of racism directed towards the monsters living in the human world. Did you intend to address these issues?

O: I enjoy creating strong characters. To build up the personalities of these characters, I thought it would be interesting if I had those themes in the story. That particular theme didn’t come first, it actually came later on as I built up the characters in the story.

OR: With so many fan favorite female monster characters, do you listen to who they would like to see Darling-kun with?

O: Actually, I often get influenced by the fans. One fan from Twitter really loves Polt and asks me all the time to [have] Kimihito Kurusu go to the gym with her. This had me thinking that maybe Polt is a good character and deserves some alone time with Kurusu. So if you read the recent stories, Polt shows up a lot more.

©OKAYADO 2016 | Lala, the seventh girl to move in.

OR: Do Western fans message you as well?

O: Yes, all the time. Actually, the fan that requested more of Polt was from overseas and use[d] Google translate to read the manga.  [OR Note: OKAYADO uses Google translate to read messages from fans as well.]

OR: Will there be an American monster girl?

O: I think about this a lot. I believe that Zombina is sort of American. My image of zombies comes from American zombie movies so I used that influence when creating Zombina.

OR: When first creating Monster Musume, were there people who told you that it wouldn’t work?

O: Monster Musume started out as a one page manga. I would put it on the internet and it started to gain a fan base. Later, when I decided to make it into a series, those fans were against it. They told me that if I made it into a series it wouldn’t be able to capture the interesting aspects of the manga. I decided not to think about it too much and do what I can do. The fans that loved the series in the beginning really kept me going.

OR: Is there anything you won’t draw in Monster Musume?

O: First of all, Monster Musume is not an adults-only manga. In Japan, to get this adults-only title you would need to show the actual sex scene or show anything below the waist.

Monster Musume
©OKAYADO 2016 | Miia (on left) and Papi (on right) are the first and second girls to move in with Kimihito Kurusu.

OR: If you moved on from Monster Musume, which character would you miss the most?

O: Probably Miia. She was there since the beginning so I’d probably miss her the most. Honestly, I was pretty surprised by the popularity of [Arachnera], she doesn’t really look ‘cute’. I was not only surprised, I was also happy that people loved her and for that I would miss her as well.

©OKAYADO 2016 | Monster Musume
©OKAYADO 2016 | Rachnera Arachnera with Kimihito Kurusu pinned down beneath her.

OR: Do you have any future projects in mind?

O: I’m interested in science fiction, but I really like monster girls. So if I was were to start a new project, it would have monster girls in it.

OR: Kimihito Kurusu rarely gets called by his real name. Instead the girls call him various forms of ‘Darling’. Was this intentional?

O: Well yes, I do this on purpose so that the readers can connect more with the characters. I feel like it attaches the reader more to the character.

OR: Fans who enjoy Monster Musume are often on the receiving end of bullying and criticism. Do you have any advice for them on how to deal with those situations?

O: Well I feel like I’m still trying to figure that out myself. I really don’t know.

OR: What is the future of Monster Musume and can we expect spin-off stories?

O: I mainly focus on the main girls, but I’d love to expand on the side characters’ stories in the future.

No other children live in the town so Parin is surprised to find a young girl about to be attacked by an angry dog. Parin rescues the girl and learns something even more shocking – her new friend is a monster, and like all monsters, invisible to adults. Parin is soon invited to the mysterious Monster Village, which just so happens to be hidden right behind the town. Parin has just started making monster friends when evil spirits, known as Phantoms, invade the village and ‘monsternap’ most of the inhabitants. Parin learns of the Legendary Drill, a weapon accessible only to the chosen, and powerful enough to eliminate the Phantoms. Thus begins Parin’s quest to reclaim the Legendary Drill, drive out the Phantoms and set the world right.

Koei Tecmo has posted on the PlayStation Blog that their upcoming hardcore action title Nioh will be receiving its second beta demo on August 23.

The previous Beta allowed players to voice their concerns with the series. Koei Tecmo responded with technical changes and tweaks to the game. The demo will be live until September 6.

Additionally, players will be able to chose from katana, spears, axes, and hammers to use as weapons.

Koei Tecmo details the game on the blog:

The tough gameplay pits players against daunting and overpowering creatures, and encourages them to learn their enemies’ tactics to gain the advantage in battle.

The protagonist, William, is not alone against the perilous Yokai, as he will be accompanied by a diverse cast of characters who will aid him on his travels across Japan. Hanzo Hattori, the head of a famous ninja clan, is William’s guide through the country. Ginchiyo Tachibana (wife of Muneshige, the head of the Tachibana clan) will also help William on his quest with her skilled fighting abilities.
